National Debate on Resilience in the Water Sector 2023
Welcome to the third National Debate on Resilience in the Water Sector organised by the EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training in Water Infrastructure and Resilience (WIRe) and Water and Waste Infrastructure and Services Engineered for Resilience (Water-WISER). The debate will take place on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 from 10 am to 12:30 pm. It is online and free for all.
The topic for this edition of the debate is Water Resilience and Sustainability – Lessons from Around the World and will attempt to answer the question - can cooperation and knowledge transfer help low-, middle- and high-income countries achieve sustainable water and sanitation?
We have an exceptional line-up of speakers and panellists for the debate who are leading professionals from consultancies, water companies, academics and trade organisations.

Chair Profiles
Dr Alison Parker - Chair
Senior Lecturer in International Water and Sanitation, Cranfield Universtiy
Dr Parker completed a four year Masters degree at the University of Oxford in Earth Sciences.This was followed by a PhD at the University of Leeds studying the hydrogeology of the chalk aquifer of East Yorkshire. Dr Parker started as a Research Fellow at Cranfield University in January 2009 and was progressed to Senior Lecturer by October 2019 and currently Course Director for the MSc in Water and Sanitation for Development.
Dr Parker’s research activity covers many topics in water and sanitation in low-income countries, including Water Safety Plans, communication, capacity building, benchmarking and climate change.
Professor Peter Jarvis - co-Chair
Professor of Water Science and Technology, Cranfield University
Professor Peter Jarvis has been working at Cranfield in the Cranfield Water Science Institute since May 2005. Having obtained his MSc in Water and Wastewater Engineering (2001) and PhD in Water Treatment from Cranfield (2004), he worked at Anglian Water in industrial research and development from 2004-2005. Prior to this he studied for a BSc (Honours) in Marine Biology at the University of Liverpool (1995-1998).
Professor Jarvis's current research interests centre on using new and existing technologies for advanced removal of natural organic matter and a range of other contaminants from water sources used for drinking.
